The line between a standard computer monitor and a TV continues to blur because manufacturers like Samsung are trying to deliver the best of both worlds so consumers only have to buy a single unit to enjoy both their computing and TV watching. The Samsung P2770HD is one of the devices that try to deliver a pretty full package for a price tag under $400.
Design
The Samsung P2770HD is a 27-inch monitor with a bezel measuring 1.9 inches on the bottom part while the sides measure 1.3 inches. Just like many other Samsung monitors and television displays, the overall construction is pleasing to look at and the transparent glass contributes to the aesthetics nicely. Although the screen height is not adjustable, the screen can still tilt to the back 25 degrees for ergonomic purposes. The display can also be mounted on the wall using a VESA-style mount.

Connectivity
Perhaps the biggest strength of the P2770HD is its wide array of connectivity options making it a truly multifunction LCD monitor. It starts out with the monitor essentials providing both a VGA and DVI port so PC and laptop owners can quickly set up the device as a primary or secondary monitor. One HDMI port is available as well which can transfer both audio and video so the built-in speakers can be utilized. On the TV side, component, composite, and coaxial options are provided so older media players and cable boxes can be used. Non-HDMI devices can still use the standard digital audio out and audio ports for the speakers to work with these devices. All of these ports are conveniently located on the back.
Performance and Features
The Samsung P2770HD is ready to handle 1920×1080 resolutions so the latest Blu-ray content and video game titles look great. When watching movies, ordinary TV viewers should be contented with the decent colors and picture levels. The brightness could use some tuning as the Samsung XL2370 provides brighter colors. But the “Dynamic Contrast” preset makes it up for it greatly where the colors are as vivid as ever and the blacks are exceptionally deep. The “Entertainment” preset is also good to try for certain movies and video game titles. The P2770HD also joins the 16:9 aspect ratio group where 1080p movies perfectly fit on full screen mode without image stretching. The audio quality easily beats ordinary PC speakers as the speakers are enhanced by SRS TruSurround technologies to give the sound experience an emulated 5.1 effect.
Those that configured HDTVs in the past should feel at home with Samsung’s OSD. It can be brought up by using the remote control which is recommended or by pressing the lower right-hand corner of the bezel. Various controls can be adjusted including contrast, brightness, and sharpness along with the available presets.

Excellent Monitor and HDTV,
After researching alternatives, I purchased the P2770HD to replace dual four-year old HP 19″ LCD (4 x 3 aspect ratio) monitors running at 1280 X 1024 resolution.
I calculated that 27″ (at 1080P) was the maximum screen size that would retain the resolution quality of my previous monitors.
I’m exceptionally pleased with this unit. The size is just right for displaying two full-size windows simultaneously, side-by-side. Graphics and text are sharp and colors are great.
Bottom Line
Another plus is that it comes with DVI and HDMI cables so the monitor is ready for multifunction use. The DVI cable is recommended for optimal picture quality. Though the brightness and power consumption levels could use some improvement, the Samsung P2770HD is competitively priced and serves as a decent computer monitor and 1080p TV with tons of connection options except the old S-Video port.
